Here are some quick notes about what happened at the first VAP meeting of this school year.1. We elected the new officers for this school year. Your new President is Sarah Barnard-Blitz and your new Treasure is Kayleigh Speck. Trudie Teijink volunteered to help as needed under the unoffical title of VP. Thanks to all of them for their future contributions.
2. An Evening of Art Discussion and Food:
The first Grad-on-Grad critique will be Sept. 19 from
7pm-9pm. It will be in the big crit space, 2nd floor Richards Hall.
Everyone is welcome to attend. There will be 6 openings for those
of
you who would like to put up work to be discussed. The sign-up sheet
for the 6 critique spots and a food sign-up list will be on door 228
in Richards Hall. It really is a fun and helpful experience.
3. The annual slide jam:
This yearly "get-to-know each other's art" event will be
Friday Oct. 12 at 4:30 in Richards room 15. This event is attended
by grads, undergrads, and faculty. It is a real low pressure event.
Just show some images of your work and say a little something. If
you are new, it is perfectly fine to show the images that you applied
to
the program with. None of us have seen any of them. Oct. 5th
4. The Second Annual Open Studios Tour:
The date for this heavily attended event is set for the
evening of November 16th. We learned a lot from last year's event
and
this Open Studio night is going to be even better. We have already
begun to divvy up responsibilities for the event. Thus far, Anne and
Jewel are going to be working on signage, maps, artist bios, and tour
guides for the event. Erica Larsen, Shane, and myself have
volunteered to work on the publicity. Erika Navarrete with help from
tba will organize the undergraduate showing.
5. Emily and Drew are going to share the task of sitting in on the
faculty meetings on behalf of the graduate students.
